Mode of action
How does the active ingredient in the medicine work?
The ingredients are derived from the horse chestnut plant and act as a natural mixture. About the plant itself:
- Appearance: deciduous tree up to 30 metres tall with large, fingered leaves and striking pink flower spikes; the shiny brown seeds are surrounded by a yellowish-green spiny shell. - Occurrence: temperate zones
- Main constituents: triterpene saponins (aescin), proanthocyanidins
- Parts of the plant used and preparations: mainly extracts and tinctures from leaves, flowers and seeds
Aescin has a vessel-sealing and oedema-inhibiting effect and improves vein tone. The ingredients also have an anti-inflammatory effect.
